Lake Erie has had its own story of a lake monster since the early 1800s. There have been reports as recent as five years ago, but this lake monster gets very little press. It is supposedly responsible for the death of three people back in 1992.
I was excited when Cleveland decided to name their AHL hockey team the "Lake Erie Monsters" as hopefully it would provide a little more press about the story, so far it hasn't. _________________

| I think I have only seen mention in the Weird Ohio books about Bessie. You here about all these other lake monsters but never anything about a Lake Erie monster. That's enough to make Walleye fishing a little more of an adventure. |

How many people has the loch ness monster killed?
If Cleveland exploited this monster as their own, even though most sightings were farther west, it could help their tourism and economy (don't forget to vote for me for Mayor).
I think it's because the name is wimpy. Who's afraid of a creature called "bessie"? It sounds like a sweet old lady who has plenty of cats... _________________

Oh, and by the way, the story of Bessie killing three people in the early 1990s was not true. It's a myth that's been perpetuated over the years, I was hoping someone would comment about it.
It was actually a made up story by the folks at Weekly World News. I've seen it presented on numerous web sites that talk about Bessie (including Wikipedia). This is the big problem with the internet (copy and paste) in that people don't do their homework. Don't believe everything you read! _________________

OK, I fixed the wikipedia page and referenced the only page I could find with the photo of the cover of the Weekly World News page which featured the "story".
I just can't stand misinterpreted "facts".
